VIFF Queer Flick o' the Day! - Stonewall Uprising
Hey everyone, in light of recent events affecting queer youth in North America, I urge all of you to see this insightful and moving documentary about an important turning point in queer history. Stonewall Uprising highlights the riot that broke out at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York City on June 28, 1969, which gave rise to the gay rights movement. In Canada, we have come a long way in terms of LGBTTQ rights, and we are blessed to enjoy many privileges that our heterosexual counterparts do; however, the struggle for equality and societal acceptance continues. It is important to revisit our past to see how the fight for those rights started, so that it can serve as a reminder to continue to stand up for queer rights for all our brothers and sisters in Canada and the world over.
Stonewall Uprising plays tonight, Wednesday Oct. 6 at 9:30pm, Empire Granville 7. For tickets and links to other VIFF screenings, visit http://www.viff.org/festival.
